will you be at my birth?
no, but I am your provider through the rest of the journey. i can provide your prenatal and postpartum care directly, start to finish. when it's time to deliver, you'll go to the hospital and be attended by the on-call OB or midwife, rather than by me.
so who's actually taking care of me during pregnancy?
i am! i can order labs, refer out for ultrasounds, and help you build your birth plan. I can send your records ahead to your delivering hospital so the on-call team already knows your history when you arrive.
isn't it risky not knowing who will deliver me?
for low-risk pregnancies, this is a well-established model. in many hospital-based practices, you wouldn't know who'd be on call the day of your delivery anyway. what matters most is thorough prenatal care and a hospital team you trust. if risk factors emerge, we'll adjust your plan together.
do I have to stay in the hospital the standard length of time?
not necessarily! if you and baby are low-risk, early discharge is often possible, and I'll do a home visit at 24–48 hours with newborn screenings and hands-on support.
if you're not on call, what happens if there's an emergency?
i have an on-call line that you can ring if something needs urgent attention. while i'm not on call to delivery your baby, i am always reachable by phone if an emergency arises and you need instant access.
do you accept insurance?
this is a self-pay service; HSA/FSA funds may apply.
where do visits happen?
all visits will occur in office except for the 24-48 hours postpartum visit at your home or in the hospital, though you can request home visits for your entire care for an added fee.
